Interior Pool Surface for Concrete Pools:

There are actually many interior pool surfaces used throughout the world. The three most common, and the three we recommend you consider, are plaster, “quartz” and pebble. Quartz and pebble surfaces were developed as solutions to the shortcomings of plaster. And they are. However, neither is perfect and, like most improvements, they cost more than plaster. Here’s how they compare, so you can make up your own mind. . .

Plaster is still the most common interior pool surface (although it’s not the best). People like plaster because they’re familiar with it and it’s the least expensive of the three pool surfaces.

Most traditional plaster is white cement mixed with limestone or marble sand. By its nature, plaster has certain limitations.

Its porous surface is the most susceptible of the three to staining, bacteria growth and breakdown by the chemicals you add. Because plaster constantly reacts to water and chemicals, plaster pools “use” more chemicals to maintain a balanced water chemistry. And plaster doesn’t typically last as long as the other two surfaces (for these reasons).

You can expect a new plaster surface to give you 7 to 10 years of good service with proper care.

A quartz interior pool surface is actually a plaster surface with quartz aggregate mixed in. There are two benefits with quartz: First, quartz is a very hard material. And because a percentage of your pool interior surface is now covered with a hard, non-porous, stain-resistant material – quartz – you have a more stain-resistant, more durable and longer-lasting surface than plaster alone.

Second, people like quartz because you can introduce colors into your pool interior with it. We use 3M Colorquartz in our quartz pools, generally regarded as the best color quartz available. People choose quartz for beauty (colors) and durability. Quartz is an “7” on the hardness scale compared to marble sand (what it replaces) at a “3” (diamond is “10”). Quartz costs about 50% more than traditional plaster. You can expect a new quartz surface to give you 10 to 15 years of good service with proper care.

A “pebble” interior pool surface is also a plaster surface with pebble aggregate mixed in. The pebbles actually comprise the majority of the surface of the pool, with the obvious advantages.

It is the most stain-resistant and most durable surface available. And you can select from many different interesting colors. But it’s a rough surface. It’s hard on feet and on automatic pool cleaners (any parts coming in constant contact with the surface of pebble pools will wear out much more quickly). A “mini” pebble surface is available from most pool companies. It is smoother than standard pebble because it uses small pebbles. This surface is actually polished smooth!

Pebble surfaces are about double the cost of traditional plaster. You can expect a new pebble surface to give you 12 to 20 years of good service with proper care.

      Fiberglass Pools:

Fiberglass pools are much quicker to install due to their prefabrication (some as quick as 7 days, as a traditional concrete pool can be upto 3 months+ installation).

Custom sizes, shapes and depths are also available as well as walk in gradients (walk in level which graduates to the deep end). Both traditional chlorinated water or salt water options are available with Fiberglass pools.

Fiberglass pools also heat up faster and retain heat longer generally than concrete pools.

      Purchasing the Best Raw Materials

We utilize the best raw materials that reduce our environmental footprint. Our latest achievement has been partnering with Owens Corning and implementing the Advantex® E-CR glass. This is fiberglass that is produced in North America and is Boron-free. Advantex® uses less energy to manufacture and ship.

      Inground Fiberglass Swimming Pool Shells

By purchasing a one-piece fiberglass pool, you have a smaller environmental footprint than vinyl liner or gunite pools.

      • No vinyl liners in landfills.
      • No acid washing or resurfacing necessary as with gunite pools.
      • Fewer chemicals used to maintain pool water chemistry.

An Aqua Pro fiberglass swimming pool incorporates the best design features and finishes available in the fiberglass pool industry. Modern styles and lifestyle components such as integrated stairs, tanning ledges and wrap around party seating will accommodate any design flavor and taste. Our Shimmer Finish gel coats are available in seven colors and will enhance your pools overall beauty.

The pool style you select in your dealers display center, retail store or brochure is exactly what you get at home. No hit or miss guesswork. Fiberglass pools are manufactured in climate controlled factories and held to the highest standards.

      Fiberglass Pools:

Fiberglass pools are in-mold, handcrafted pools that arrive at your home ready to be installed in your yard. The fiberglass is created from millions of interwoven glass threads covered with a polyester resin. It’s an incredibly sturdy material that’s ideal for an in-ground pool. In comparison, a concrete pool requires a steel or wooden framework that needs to be covered by a mixture of cement, sand, and water. Fiberglass is the material of choice for bathtubs, sinks, hot tubs, and multi-million dollar yachts, not to mention, airplanes, helicopters, exotic automobiles and many other high-performance products.

Fiberglass swimming pools are one of the most rewarding and customizable ways to transform your backyard into the ultimate outdoor sanctuary. Compared to concrete pools, fiberglass pools are the easiest to maintain and have the strongest and most durable material. When you invest in a fiberglass pool, you’re building a pool that will last a lifetime and remain a constant source of relaxation, fun, beauty, and delight year after year.
